Puppet: (enters singing) I’m so good... I’m so good... Oh yeah! I’m going to heaven because I'm sooooo soooooo good! You know it... Oh yeah... I’m good!

Leader: Hold on; wait a minute; what is this all about?

Puppet: I’m going to heaven and I’m excited!

Leader: That’s great! You should be excited.

Puppet: I’m so good, and that is why I am going to heaven. I earned it! Yes sir, I earned it!

Leader: Back up! Nobody can EARN their way into heaven. Nobody really DESERVES to go to heaven.

Puppet: I really am so good.

Leader: I know you are, but sometimes you still sin, right?  The Bible says that we have all sinned.

Puppet: Sometimes I still sin, but I don’t really mean to, and I’ve been praying every day, and God has been helping me, so I only sin a little bit, and if I realize I sin I always pray & ask God to forgive me.

Leader: That is exactly what you are supposed to do, but what if God did not forgive you.

Puppet: God ALWAYS forgives us because Jesus died on the cross for our sins. God forgives and forgets all our sins when we repent because Jesus died for us.

Leader: That’s right. The blood of Jesus washes our sins away so we can go to heaven. We cannot EARN our way into heaven. Only the grace of God allows us enter God’s kingdom.

Puppet: The Grace of God? Who is Grace? Does she hold the key to the gate of heaven?
Leader: Not who, but what?

Puppet: What?

Leader: Grace means something given to us that we really do not deserve.

Puppet: Like a gift?

Leader: Exactly like a gift. A gift that is available to all of us no matter what we have done or who we are. All we have to do is ask and believe Jesus to be Lord of our life.

Puppet: (sadly) I’m bummed out now.

Leader: Why in the world would you be bummed out? We are talking about God’s gift of salvation through His grace & Jesus. If it were not for God’s grace, you would not get into heaven at all. What is there to be bummed out about?

Puppet: That part is really exciting, but I thought I was getting a reward for being good.

Leader: You have nothing to be bummed out  about! You are getting into heaven by the grace of God. That is a free gift but rewards are something that you earn by being good and doing good deeds. When we get to heaven there will be all kinds of rewards passed out. You will get a reward for every good thing that you’ve done in your life.

Puppet: Really, we are still going to get rewards?

Leader: You better believe it! Every time you help someone or give to others without bragging, God sets aside a special reward for you. I am sure you will have many rewards waiting for you when you get to heaven. Don’t you worry!

Puppet: Oh yeah... uh huh... I’m going to heaven by the grace of God... But Jesus is giving me rewards because HE is soooo good. Rewards for me cuz JESUS is so soooo good!

Leader: I am so proud of you for not bragging! This time you said Jesus was so good instead of saying that you were so good. We should not brag or boast about our good works or we will not get the reward in heaven.

Puppet: Yep, I was listening, but I am not bragging about listening; I am just stating the facts! Byeeeeeeeeeeeee everybody. See you on reward day!
