Was Jesus Hangry? Why Did Jesus Kill The Fig Tree?
Why would Jesus curse the fig tree when the Bible tells us that it wasn’t the season for figs to be growing. Think about it. Jesus killed that tree with his words. The tree was doing exactly what it was supposed to be doing in the season it was in. Why then would he curse it? Do you think he was just hungry & angry? Hangry? Jesus didn't lose control of himself and curse the tree because his hunger and anger got the better of him. Jesus did this so he could teach us a valuable lesson. Our words are powerful. What we choose to speak matters & makes a difference. Jesus wanted us to know how powerful our words really are. God’s Word is perfect & full of promises & when we speak God’s Word, it accomplishes great things. God’s Word heals, protects, provides, brings joy & peace & so much more. However, when we pray for something then grumble & complain about the thing we are praying for or praying to change, then that is speaking a curse over what we asked for in prayer. If someone is praying for their finances to change but constantly saying how broke they are then they are speaking a curse on themselves just like Jesus did on the fig tree. Doubt & faith can not coexist. If Jesus was just hangry then he could have easily commanded the fig tree to produce big, juicy figs, but Jesus wanted us to show us that we have to be very careful with our words & how powerful they are.
The negative things we say when we complain have an effect, but when we speak God’s Word & align our actions in obedience to God's Word in faith then there is no mountain that can't be moved or stronghold that can stand against the Living Word Of God. Speaking God's Word makes great things happen!
Have faith in God, Jesus answered. Truly I tell you, if anyone SAYS to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they SAY will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.
Out of the same mouth come praise & cursing. My brothers & sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water & salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers & sisters, can a fig tree bear olives or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. James 3:10-1.
