Bible Verse - Deuteronomy 11:1- Love the LORD your God and keep His requirements, His decrees, His laws and His commands always.

What you will need - Box of cake mix, eggs, glass of water, various spices & condiments, such as pepper, garlic, ketchup, mustard, mixing bowl, & mixer. Optional apron. It really adds to the effect if you have access to an oven so you can actually bake the cake, if not, you can still pull it off. If you are able to bake the cake, bring enough Dixie cups & forks for all the kids.

Put on your apron & start setting up all your cake objects.

Who wants to help me bake a cake? Okay then lets get started!

Take the cake mix out of the box, toss the box behind you.

Directions schmerections, who needs them! Directions are rules & today we won't be needing them!

call the kids up one at a time to help prepare the cake. Let each one have a chance to add whatever they chose, eggs, ketchup, garlic, Tabasco, whatever!

I Love mustard on my hotdogs, so why not in a cake. Rules schmules!

If possible go bake the cake, if not, ask who would like to lick the spoon. Don't be surprised if you have one little wise guy who wants to! Let him!

Do you think the cake will taste good? Why not? Do you think it would have tasted better if we followed the directions? Why? Why can't I just put anything I want in the cake? I use ketchup on my hamburgers & it tastes yummy, why not on a cake?

Let the kids answer, allow them to think.

Do you think the cake would taste better if we followed the recipe? Yeah, me too. That is why the cake came with directions, so it would taste the very best it could taste, & so we would be able to enjoy it at it's very best.

God gave us directions too. He gave us HIS Word, The Bible. The Bible is our recipe for life. GOD didn't just make up a bunch of rules & directions to keep us from having fun. He ordered us to follow all of His commands so we could have the very best life possible. If we obey GOD'S commands then we will be a lot happier, more successful, & enjoy our life a lot more than if we disobey Him and just do whatever we want. GOD wants our life to be full of good things, that is why He gave us instructions to obey. If we don't obey GOD'S Word then our life will not be very enjoyable.

So just like the cake has instructions so it will taste good, The Bible is our recipe for a good & happy life!

At the end of the service, let each child taste the cake made without instructions. Give them each a sample in the Dixie cups. Have a garbage can close at hand! Spit! Having cupcakes prepared in advance so they can enjoy something prepared by following the instructions is a nice added touch.
